This RING-MODULATOR illustrated is an Electronic Music Sound-Effects Unit capable of producing a very wide range of strange and interesting sounds.
It's great for making impressive music, it's ideal for Professional use in Studio Sound-Effects, Entertainment, Parties etc. It makes a very good present for a Musician or Sound-Effects enthusiast. It simply plugs into almost any audio system, amplifier, sample unit, sound-mixer desk or Hi-Fi system. It can be used with most other sound effects and it's great for Disco and Karaoke.
It comes in a variety of patterns - the one illustrated here is RM-175-SI. The other one at the top is RM-117-WH. If you look in the Theremin 002-Gallery, you'll find very many more patterns there, all available on the Ring-Modulator - please state whicjh pattern is required when ordering. This is a genuine RING-MODULATOR. It has not been 'faked up' – e.g. with 'ring modulator chips' which simulate the sound but are not the same! So it has 3 sockets to be used as either inputs or outputs. The 2 end sockets are HIGH impedance (20K), the middle one LOW impedance (600 ohms). Usually, we use the 2 end sockets as inputs and the middle socket as output. Inputs should be at line level or a bit above. The output will be at a lower level and may need to be amplified to bring it back up to line level if needed.

If you put a sound signal into any one of the inputs without a signal into the other input, then theoretically there should be no signal from the output. In practice there is usually a small leakage signal from the output because the circuit is not perfectly balanced.

If you put a sound signal into both inputs, each will enable the other, so that you will obtain a combined signal from the output, but usually each also affects the other in special ways to give very interesting sound effects.

If you put 2 discrete but different pitches one into each input, the sound which comes out will not contain much of either unless they are harmonically related. It will contain the sum and difference frequencies of the two notes. These may not be at all musically related to a piece of music which in they are normally played together, and may sound quite discordant. You may expect some very strange sounds when using the Ring-Modulator.

This model Ring-Modulator 'RM1' is powered by the sound signals you put into it, so there is no need to use any battery or mains-pack.

Model RM1 is MONO. Use 2 for Stereo or do one track at a time.

The 2 outer (High impedance) sockets are AC in or out. If either one is used as the output, the centre (Low impedance) socket can be used as an input. This will respond to AC or DC input, and in this case it is possible to obtain the original input frequencies from the output as well as their sums and difference frequencies, and to use the low impedance input as a volume modulation input.

We expect to make available soon a larger model with built-in pre-amplifiers and this would need a power supply or battery.
The FUZZ-BOX illustrated is an Electronic Music Sound-Effects Unit which can be used with Musical Instruments such as Electric Guitars, Theremins and numerous other Instruments. It makes a great present for a GUITARIST or THEREMIN-PLAYER.
It adds extra harmonics to the sound of the Instrument with which it is used, so that the sound is considerably altered. When used with a guitar, it intermodulates the sounds of the strings if more than one note is played at once, and it adds a lot of 'sustain' effect to the notes. It also has a built-in 'noise gate' effect which reduces hiss.

Insert a 9-volt radio battery of the kind which can be bought almost anywhere type PP3 or an 8.4-volt rechargeable.
2.
Plug a MONO standard jack-plug (6mm or 1/4") into the output socket to connect to almost any Audio - Amplifier, Mixer Desk, Hi-Fi, Effects Units, etc, by means of a screened Audio connecting lead.
3.
Plug output from Electric Guitar, Theremin or other Instrument into the input socket.
4.
Adjust the volume controls.
5.
Turn the 'Boost' control up a little, not very high, from Anti-clockwise (minimum).
6.
Turn the 'sustain' control up until a hiss is heard, then turn it down again so that the hiss disappears. This means that the 'noise gate' is active and has removed the 'hiss'. With a guitar, this setting should give a long 'sustain' effect.

You can also connect the Fuzz-Box to sound effects such as echo reverb, chorus etc.

Adjust the 'sustain' and 'boost' controls to give best results. Do not turn the boost too high for your amplifier or speakers, in order to avoid damage.

When not using Fuzz Box, remove Audio Jack-Plug to save the battery. The Fuzz Box switches 'On' when the audio plug is inserted.
The DUB-SIREN or No1derDUB (shown left & below) is designed to make SIREN SOUNDS - these can be set to MOMENTARY or CONTINUOUS.

MOMENTARY Switch gives a brief Siren sound, springs back to 'Off' when not pressed .
9.
When not using the DUB-SIREN, remove Audio Jack-Plug to save the battery.
10.
The DUB-SIREN switches 'On' when the audio plug is inserted.
